I was still mulling the price vs flexibility question when DxO sent me a 30% discount code. I also seem to recall (mists of time!) there was an issue about how/ where I could apply my custom R5 colour profile, which works very well in PL4E (provided I export files as TIFF's). While PureRAW did a really good job with most of the files, I felt with a small number there was a notable loss of detail vs PL4E - which allows the user to control all of the key settings. I downloaded both PureRAW and PL4E and tried each with the same (20-ish) raw files. I am wondering if I only need DxO Pure Raw instead of Photolab. Thanks for your info and workflow examples. You should note I am still in the process of learning PL4E, but am finding the learning curve very do-able (with the caveat I don’t know what I don’t know). I did try out PureRAW, which did a good job, but prefer the control and functionality offered by PL4E. This works for me and is therefore the right one for me). (I must emphasise everyone will have their own workflow and if it works for them it is the right one. An example of my workflow in action can be found Here and some sample results can be found Here and Here. The process is entirely image/ desired outcome driven, so varies accordingly/ enormously. Photoshop, Topaz Apps) -> Lightroom (final tweaks, catalogue etc.). My typical workflow is: import raw images into Lightroom (initial weeding) -> DxO PL4E via plug-in (initial image processing, including applying lens corrections, a custom R5 colour profile derived from the X-Rite color Passport 2 system and DeepPRIME NR) -> export as TIFF (this embeds my R5 colour profile) -> Lightroom (tweaks - including local adjustments) -> Anything Else (e.g. Is anyone doing anything similar to what I am looking for that can offer advice? Or is PureRaw the way to go with Lightroom being the continued local editor? That is why I won't just purchase DxO PureRaw. Has anyone done any initial testing on this? If adopt DxO I will probably make the effort to learn to make my local adjustments but for now, I really don't have the time to spend to learn. DxO > Deep Prime + lens correction > Lightroom > local adjustmentsĢ.DxO > Deep Prime > Lightroom > lens corrections + local adjustments What might be the better workflow to start my testing with if I wanted to keep local corrections in Lightroom for the time being?ġ. I see that export to Lightroom can happen from DxO. I have downloaded DxO Photlab4 trial to get a feel for it. I don't want to focus on that aspect in this thread. I am still not happy for a variety of reasons with R5 RAW import to Lightroom even after trying several profiles including attempting my own.
